Congratulations to Cris Busquets! We’re proud to announce she’s won Spain’s top creative award: a National Design Award in the Young Design Professionals category, which recognizes her as a leader among a new wave of digital designers for breaking down barriers in the profession.
This prestigious honor, handed out each year by the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities, celebrates excellence across design fields, focusing on work that leaves a lasting mark on Spain’s design heritage.
“Receiving this award is a true honor, I’m deeply thankful to everyone who has supported me along the way—including colleagues and mentors—and for the opportunities that have shaped my journey. It’s exciting to see digital product design gaining greater recognition in both institutional and societal contexts. I hope I can inspire more women and young designers to pursue their passions and make their mark in this field.”
Cris started designing at age 11, when she began building websites with FrontPage and Dreamweaver. Discovering WordPress transformed her hobby into a serious career, allowing her to create multilingual sites and custom themes. After facing personal and professional setbacks a few years ago, she felt disconnected from the design world. Joining Automattic reignited her passion. The collaborative and supportive team helped her regain a sense of purpose.

“Working at Automattic has truly been a transformative experience, I’m surrounded by incredible designers and developers, and, most importantly, amazing human beings. This environment has allowed me to learn and grow both as a person and as a designer. Automattic is a very special company. Our mission—to make the web a better place—resonates deeply with me.”

The National Design Award ceremony will take place in the Spring of 2025, and will be attended by the King of Spain. ¡Felicidades!
