In this edition of Best in WordPress Design we chat with Founder & Creative Directress of Hey Studio, Verònica Fuerte. Hey is a creative studio based in Barcelona since 2007, specializing in developing creative strategies and visual languages for brands worldwide. Where did the inspiration for this site design come from?

The inspiration for our site design primarily came from our love for bold and vibrant colors, geometric shapes, and a desire to showcase our playful and creative spirit. We aimed to convey the essence of Hey through our website, creating an immersive visual experience.

We wanted people to take away a sense of our design philosophy, which is all about finding beauty in simplicity, breaking down complex ideas into visually appealing forms, and, above all, having fun with design. So, the theme revolves around minimalism with a touch of quirkiness.

Tell us about your design process.

Our process involves collaboration within the team, constant feedback, and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of our creativity. Typically, we begin with brainstorming and sketching ideas on paper. We then move on to digital design tools, where we iterate on concepts and refine them until we’re satisfied with the result. Iteration is a crucial part of our process to ensure our designs are as refined and impactful as possible.

How has using WordPress enabled you to design and build your site?

We chose WordPress because of its flexibility, ease of use, and a wide range of plugins and themes available. It allowed us to have full control over the design and content of our site while maintaining a user-friendly experience for visitors. It offered the perfect platform for showcasing our design portfolio.

Is using open-source software products important to you? Why?

We are actively working to make our website open source and freely accessible to everybody. We believe in the power of open-source collaboration and want to contribute to the creative community by sharing our design and development work with the world. What did you accomplish with this site that is most satisfying for you?

The most challenging part of this design was finding the right balance between minimalism and conveying our brand’s character. We didn’t want to overwhelm visitors with too much information or complexity, yet we wanted to make a memorable impression.

I’m most satisfied with how we’ve managed to capture the essence of Hey’s design philosophy & values while creating an intuitive and visual website. It’s a true reflection of our brand’s personality.
